Rhizome vertical, 1-1.5 cm. thick. Cataphylls 9-14 cm. long, very distinctly transversely barred with purplish markings, narrowing apically, often with terminal, stipitate, lanceolate projection to 1.3 cm. long. LEAVES: Petiole 14-40 cm. long; basal part with very distinct maroon-purple transverse barring and distinctly transversely ridged (at least in dried material); basal sheath 2-12 cm. long, weakly auriculate or narrowing gradually upwards; blade narrowly triangular to ovate-elliptic in outline, deeply sagittate, 13-24 cm. long, 5-14 cm. broad, acute, apiculate, basal lobes almost as long as anterior lobe, retrorse, acutely tipped, separated by narrowly triangular sinus.
